About Karen Bowman

Graduating with a first in social and cultural history, Karen is an accomplished author and historian. Her polished writing and love of history shine through her books and historical talks.

Karen is a passionate historian and has written for: British Life, Essex Life and Countryside, Discover Your Ancestors and more.

Residing in Essex, England, Karen lives near the coast with her husband. A freelance writer, one article organically evolved into her first book, Essex Girls – The Scandalous History of the Women of Essex, published in 2010. Essex Boys soon followed in 2013, and the widely acclaimed Corsets and Codpieces in 2015.

Karen’s hobbies include living history, genealogy and costume making, to name a few. She won the Department of History Prize for Best Overall Degree Performance whilst studying at the University of Essex. A member of the Society of Women Writers and The Journalists and the Historical Writers Association, Karen has had the immense pleasure of supporting many other authors and historians among them Alison Weir and Suzanna Lipscombe.
